3 Dog-Friendly Treat Recipes to Make This Diwali Extra Special

ree

Diwali is a festival of lights, joy, and togetherness.. and for many of us, that includes our dogs too. While we enjoy laddoos, mithais, and festive snacks, our dog friends deserve a safe and tasty treat of their own. Here are 3 easy, vet-approved, dog-friendly festive recipes you can make at home to include your pup in the celebrations — without the sugar, salt, or artificial ingredients.

1. Coconut & Carrot Laddoos (No sugar, no dairy)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup grated carrot (lightly steamed)

  • ½ cup desiccated coconut (unsweetened)

  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil

  • Optional: pinch of cinnamon

Method:

  1. Mix the steamed carrot and desiccated coconut in a bowl.

  2. Add a spoon of coconut oil to bind the mixture.

  3. Roll into small bite-sized laddoos.

  4. Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes to firm up.

Why it’s good: Carrots are rich in beta carotene and fiber, while coconut adds healthy fats. This treat is light, natural, and easy to digest.

2. Banana Oat Bites (Perfect for gifting too!)

Ingredients:

  • 1 ripe banana (mashed)

  • 1 cup oats (ground into flour or left whole)

  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter (unsalted, xylitol-free)

Method:

  1. Mash the banana in a bowl and mix with peanut butter.

  2. Add oats gradually to form a soft dough.

  3. Roll out the dough and cut into festive shapes using cookie cutters.

  4. Bake at 160°C for 15–20 minutes or until firm.

Why it’s good: Bananas are rich in potassium and fiber, oats help with digestion, and peanut butter makes it a lip-smacking treat.

3. Sweet Potato & Paneer Coins (Festive & filling)

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium sweet potato (boiled and mashed)

  • ½ cup paneer (crumbled)

  • 1 tablespoon rice flour

Method:

  1. Mix all ingredients into a soft dough.

  2. Shape into small patties or coin-sized rounds.

  3. Lightly pan-cook on a non-stick pan without oil or bake at 170°C for 10–12 minutes.

  4. Cool before serving.

Why it’s good: Sweet potato is a great source of vitamins, and paneer adds protein — making this a wholesome festive snack.

A Few Safety Tips

  • Avoid sugar, jaggery, chocolate, raisins, nuts, and fried foods for dogs.

  • Introduce any new treat in small quantities.

  • Always supervise your pet during treat time.

  • When in doubt, consult your vet — especially for dogs with sensitive stomachs or health issues.

Homemade treats are more than just snacks — they’re an expression of love. So while you light up your home with diyas and joy, don’t forget to light up your pup’s eyes with a little something special too.
